What is a Relay?
A relay is an electrical device opening and closing one or more contact circuits under control of another electrical circuit. In its original form, an electromechanical relay is based on a solenoid coil operating a set of contacts. The realy was invented by Joseph Henry in 1835 and, considering mainly its basic concept, it looks like a switch operated via a solenoid in stead of manually.
